There is now hope that the ruins of Angadi will be restored to their past glory as a local organisation has decided to obtain official permission and raise funds for the project. D.B. Subbe Gowda, chairman of the Hoysala Moolasamsthana Sri Kshetra Angadi Jeernodhara Prathistana, told The Hindu that it had been decided at a meeting of the trust here recently to prepare an estimate and approach the State and Union governments for permission to take up restoration work. Angadi, which means a shop, is a sleepy little village in Mudigere taluk. It was originally called "Sasakapura or Sosevur" by the Hoysalas, who built a mighty kingdom that played a decisive role in the history of south India.

Pandava hills is located near Bettadadevara Gudi, in Mudigere taluk. Bettadadevara Gudi |
Bettada Baireshwara is an ancient temple which is said to be over 600 years old. It is an hilltop temple and overlooks the entire valley. Stand there and get mesmerized by the glorious views of the hills in the Western Ghats and the valley and wonder how someone thought of building a temple here. God Baireshwara seems to stand guard over the entire valley. There is a nice motorable road, though steep, leading to the temple. One can also climb up to the temple through steps that have been built. The temple is just 10 kms from the homestay.

Ballalarayana Durga Fort |
The Ballalarayana Durga fort 5 kms from Durgadahalli, it was constructed by the wife of Veera Ballala l who was the king of the Hoysala Empire in the 12th century. The Hoysalas were known to be patrons of art and architecture and built several temples and a few forts during their rule. The Ballalarayana fort was built in the Karnata Dravida style of architecture, the architectural style that was popular in the Hoysala Empire during their rule.
There is an ancient Kalabyraveshwara temple that is situated just below the fort. Legend has it that Ballala l and his wife used to visit the temple every day. |
